LOCAL LOVE

OUR COMMUNITY

When we first set out to open Wanderlust we knew, above everything else, that we wanted to have a safe, welcoming space for those who came to visit us. Part of this meant becoming a part of the community. Each year we try to come up with unique ways to give back and, as we grow, we are given the opportunity to give back even more. While our community efforts do vary month-to-month and year-to-year, there are two events we host every year. Every month we announce our contests, events, and giveaways in our newsletter, if you want to stay up to date on what we are doing, you can sign up for it HERE.

OCEANSIDE LOCAL LOVE RAFFLE

Every year we put together an amazing basket to raffle off to the public. We rely on local businesses to donate in order to make this happen and the donations have been absolutely amazing. The Local Love raffle is a community effort to raise money for the Manna Homeless Society – an amazing charity within the PQB area that helps homeless and low income individuals and families with housing, food, and support.

This year our basket was even BIGGER and BETTER than ever before! We currently have over 30 local businesses donate items for the basket and the winner will be walking away with over $2000 in prizes!

To purchase tickets you can stop by the shop with cash or reach out via email, Facebook, or Instagram to set up an e-transfer!

SEMICOLON EVENT

Each September for Suicide prevention we host a semicolon event where we donate all the proceeds from the semicolons we tattoo to a local charity. The first year we donated $1200 to the Vancouver Island Crisis Society and in 2018 we raised $2200 for the Forward House in Parksville (banner picture depicts all the funds raised in 2018).

The semicolon has become a symbol for mental health and suicide awareness. As we firmly believe that every has been affected by mental health, whether they themselves suffer or someone they know, we understand how important it is to shed light on this subject.

Not all illnesses are visible and we are striving to help those who struggle have a little reminder that their story isn’t over. They are not alone. The discussion can start here.

THE SPOTLIGHT

Each month we write a very awesome newsletter that goes out to our mail list and one of the focuses of that newsletter is a spotlight section for other local businesses. Having been in the PQB community for three years now, we have been blessed with connecting with so many local business owners. We believe in supporting each other and building relationships with other people working to shape our community and are so excited to be able to use our platform to lift up others by frequenting their shops, reviewing them, and shining a spotlight on why we love them so.
